COST action conference
The European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) is a funding organization for the creation of research networks, called COST Action. These networks offer an open space for collaboration among scientists from various countries and foster advancements in research and innovation.

The first COST Action conference under the heading: “Towards the next generation of standards for service life of cement-based materials and structures” (TU144) took place in April 2015 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The final conference was held in Funchal on Madeira in October 2018. The goal of this COST action was to develop new methods, standards and products related to the service life of structures, rather than to concrete as a material.

On behalf of ConSensor, Wim Stenfert Kroese participated in the conference as a member of the management committee of Workgroup 3. The focus of the Workgroup was “the development of testing and monitoring methods”. The many meetings since the first conference, have led to an energetic and active network of CBM (cement based material) scientists, who continue to cooperate even though the Action itself has ended.

ConSensor equipment was used in several experiments which were carried out during the COST Action, and was used for training purposes. An important result for ConSensor was the access to a large network of EU technical institutes and universities. The participants enjoyed the many scientific and technical meetings and discussions as well as the opportunity to network in inspiring surroundings!
