COST action conference
The European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) is a funding organization for the creation of research networks, called COST Actions. These networks offer an open space for collaboration among scientists across Europe (and beyond) and thereby give impetus to research advancements and innovation.
October 2018 the final conference of the COST action TU1404: “Towards the next generation of standards for service life of cement-based materials and structures” was held in Funchal (Madeira). The COST action started April 2015 with a first conference in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
The goal of this COST action was to develop new methods, standards and products related to the service life of structures, rather than to concrete as a material.
On behalf of ConSensor BV, Wim Stenfert Kroese participated in the COST action acted as a member of the management committee of Workgroup 3, for which one of the priorities was “the development of testing and monitoring methods”. During the many meetings in the three years period an energetic and active network of CBM scientist has evolved, which continues to cooperate even now the Action itself has ended.
ConSensor equipment is used in several experiments carried out during the COST action and used for training purposes. The most important result for ConSensor is the network of EU technical institutes and universities it is linked to. And for all members it’s enjoying a sunny inspirational network meeting in between the many scientific and technical presentations in Funchal.
